- ★ ★ ★ ★ ★I just canoed the river from Egan Chutes to Boulter (Slabtown) 10.6 miles. Spent the night on the sandbar just past Farm Chute. Breathtaking! Woke to a brilliant thick morning fog created by the Chute. Fishing was great. Pike everywhere. Portages are a bit rough and sometimes quite steep. But once on the water. Easy going for any level of paddler. Google maps shows it as The Madawaska River. Error! It's The York River Google maps show 2 Chutes on map. Error! Between the 2 Chutes on map is a third Chute named Middle Chute. If your planning to do it this fall, plan for 4 portages as there is a log jam by Great Bend.By Hugh Kiddin, March 04, 2017
